Q: What do you do here at Sargent? What are your main responsibilities?
A: I am the Vice President of Human Resources. I am responsible for the Human Resources, Benefits, Workforce Development positions, as well as ensuring that our programs and policies compliant.
Q: What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
A: There are so many aspects of HR that are both challenging and rewarding, it is hard to narrow it down to one area. I would have to say keeping up with compliance and regulatory requirements and ensuring that we have the necessary policies and procedures in place as the changes take place is one challenging area. Another is developing strategies and initiatives to train, retain, and recruit qualified talent in today’s labor market.
Q: What were you up to in your career before joining Sargent?
A: I graduated from Husson with a Master of Business Administration concentration in Organizational Management. Much of my HR career has been in automotive manufacturing here in Maine and for a brief time in Mississippi. After returning to Maine, I worked at a local hospital before returning to manufacturing.
Q: What do you enjoy about your job?
A: I enjoy working with people across the organization to solve what can sometimes be complex or challenging situations. I also enjoy having the opportunity to work collaboratively with other teams to implement strategies that make a positive difference for employees and Sargent.
Q: What is it about Sargent that makes this such a great place to work?
A: The employees, the culture, the pride in the work we do! Everyone is willing to help one another and there is a distinct effort made to mentor and contribute to the success of one another. Sargent is a company that provides opportunities for employees to be successful, to grow, and to build a life with.
Q: Is there anyone in your life that you consider to be a mentor?
A: Anyone in your life can be a mentor. They don’t necessarily have to work in the same field or have all the same aspirations. When you find those people in your life that inspire you, learn as much as you can from them. Ask for their advice listen and learn as much as you can.
Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: I like to spend time with my husband and children and my adorable twin grandsons. I also like to go camping and work around my yard.
