Sargent crews are making significant progress on a $13.2 million civil earthwork project for the new Mountain Valley Community School on Highland Terrace in Mexico, slated to open in late 2025 or early 2026. This new facility will replace Rumford Elementary, Meroby Elementary, and Mountain Valley Middle School, accommodating about 1,000 students from Regional School Unit 10. The site work began in December 2023, ahead of the February 2024 groundbreaking ceremony, and includes moving 150,000 yards of soil, importing additional fill, and extensive site preparation. As Sargent works as a subcontractor under Landry/French Construction’s $92 million contract, they face challenges like winter weather and logistical constraints but are advancing steadily. The project encompasses excavation, infrastructure installation, and preparation for future phases, including building a new track, field, and parking lot once the existing middle school is demolished. The final completion is anticipated by early 2026.
