Project Overview

Sargent is returning to the Rappahannock Regional Solid Waste Management Board Sanitary Landfill in Stafford, Virginia, to construct a new cell, G1/G3. Awarded the contract at just over $8.6 million—lower than the competing bid—Sargent will fund the project with a combination of a $4 million loan from the Virginia Resources Authority and $4.6 million from the landfill’s accounts.

This marks Sargent’s third project at the site, following the completion of Cell F3 in 2020. The new cell, covering 13.5 acres, involves significant site preparation, excavation, and installation of protective and leachate collection systems. Scheduled for completion within 180 days, the project aims to address the landfill’s space constraints and improve capacity management. Sargent’s work, starting in May 2024, includes clearing, erosion control, and decommissioning existing infrastructure, with an aggressive timeline due to the landfill’s limited airspace.
