Sargent completed the expansion of Ecomaine’s ash landfill in late 2024, despite delays due to a late permit. The project involved constructing a new 4-acre cell on the landfill site between Scarborough, South Portland, and Westbrook. The work included clearing the site, importing fill, and building up to subgrade before adding layers of glacial till, clay, and sand to form the new cell. The project required over 50,000 cubic yards of material, with key safety measures like leachate collection and leak-detection systems. The expansion, completed in December 2024, ensures continued capacity for Ecomaine’s waste-to-energy operations.
