In Springfield, NH, Sargent crews replaced two existing corrugated metal pipes that convey Star Lake Outlet under George’s Mill Road with a precast concrete box culvert. Sargent won the contract with a bid just under $2.5 million. The existing bridge, built in 1951, has been rated “poor” since 2008. Sargent crews began preliminary work, including sign installation and erosion control, late last winter and in June, with the main excavation for the 22-foot-wide, 8-foot-tall culvert scheduled to begin just after the Fourth of July. The road will be closed for 30 days for the installation, which is part of a larger construction area extending along Georges Mills, Fisher Corner, and Stryker Roads, and the project is expected to be completed in August, requiring long workdays due to the accelerated schedule.
