Project Overview

The $4.9 million Butcher Creek Sanitary Landfill project in Chase City, Virginia, involves Sargent employee-owners constructing the new 8.6-acre Cell 4 for the Southside Regional Public Service Authority. Although the contract was awarded in January 2025, work was delayed until May due to state approval of stormwater plans and permit issuance. This delay, however, allowed for the timely manufacturing and delivery of all necessary geosynthetic materials. The project scope includes 340,000 cubic yards of excavation, installation of a liner system, placement of cover stone, a leachate collection system, construction of a new retaining wall, and building a new access road and ramp for trash trucks. The landfill, which opened in 2007 and serves three counties, has a closure estimate of 2091, and the Cell 4 project is set for completion in December 2025. Key personnel and subcontractors are also listed in the document.
