Q: What is your job title with Sargent, and what are your core responsibilities?
A: Equipment Manager. My core responsibilities center on managing a large mixed fleet across New England and the Mid-Atlantic — heavy earthmoving equipment, dump trucks, service trucks, trailers, and support equipment. That covers everything from equipment setup and data integrity to maintenance operations, cost tracking, and financial reporting.
Q: What are the main challenges of your job?
A: Managing a fleet this size across multiple states means a lot of moving parts — literally. Keeping equipment tracked, maintained, and financially accountable across a wide geography requires constant attention. In this business, the details matter.
Q: What were you doing in your career before joining Sargent?
A: I worked at a heavy equipment dealership for over twenty years, holding a variety of roles throughout my tenure – from the parts counter to corporate roles to branch manager.
Q: What do you enjoy about your job?
A: Challenge. There is absolutely no way I’ll ever be bored.
Q: Why do you think Sargent is such a great company to work for?
A: There are many, but one reason is tenure. My grandfather put 50 years in, and over our 100-year history, he’s far from the only one who could be called seasoned.
Q: Are there any accomplishments in your career that you’re particularly proud of?
A: Leveraging manufacturer programs to sell proactive machine rebuilds — and then seeing those machines go on to successful second lives in the field.
Q: How do you think this industry could do a better job of recruiting young talent?
A: I sit on the board at a local community college and am proud to be a part of cultivating young folks. I’ve seen a growing interest in the industry, and the trades in general…We’re getting there.
Q: Has there been anyone throughout your life that you’ve viewed as a mentor?
A: Too many to count, from my father and two uncles, my grandfather, prior superiors at the dealership…I’ve been very fortunate to learn from so many greats.
Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: Mountain biking, motocross, hiking, skiing, and snowboarding. Basically, whatever I can do to get out in the woods.
