Q. What is your job title and what are your typical responsibilities?
A. I am the Regional Manager of the Piedmont Triad Region in Greensboro, North Carolina. My responsibilities include staffing, allocation of personnel and equipment to ongoing projects, building relationships with clients and owners, soliciting additional work, and providing support to all team members in the region.
Q. What are the most common challenges you face in your role?
A. One common challenge is finding the right people to fit the required role. Building highly productive teams requires trust and accountability between team members which takes time to earn and develop. Another challenge is procuring the right amount of profitable work while ensuring available teams can complete the projects, balancing controlled growth.
Q. What did your education and work history look like before joining Sargent?
A. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in engineering from college in Vermont. After college, I worked for a national heavy civil contractor, constructing numerous heavy highway projects up and down the East Coast for about 12 years. Following that, I worked with another heavy civil contractor in Maine for about 4 years. Not wanting to live in the cold any longer, I had the opportunity to relocate to North Carolina and work for a construction consulting company for 10 years prior to joining the Sargent team in December of 2024.
Q. What do you enjoy about your job?
A. I truly enjoy building productive teams of people. Without high-functioning teams, it’s difficult to complete any project, no matter how much work we have. Our industry requires skilled team members at every level, and when we have great people, we can accomplish amazing projects.
Q. Why is Sargent such a great company to work for?
A. The people. Having worked in several different construction environments, I’ve never found a place with more employee focus than here at Sargent. In fact, it’s a core value “investing in people”, and it’s practiced daily. Sargent genuinely cares about developing and supporting all employees.
Q. Is there any specific part of your job that you’re especially proud of?
A. I am especially proud of the opportunity that Sargent has given me to establish a “brick and mortar” location here in North Carolina. I have been provided a great opportunity to add and develop new team members and establish long-term growth in this part of the country, adding value for all Sargent employee-owners.
Q. How do you like to spend your free time when you’re not at work?
A. I enjoy all things outdoors, particularly hunting. Additionally, I enjoy working with my hands building and fixing things. My wife and I spend a lot of time together watching our son play lacrosse as well.
