Q: What do you do here at Sargent? What are your main responsibilities?
A: Southern Maine Regional Manager. Help plan out projects for safe and efficient execution. Allocate equipment and personnel to projects. Build relationships with clients, partners, and fellow employee-owners. Support in building a team atmosphere where everyone brings value.
Q: What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
A: Finding time to build more meaningful relationships with the people I work with. Planning out the work consumes a lot of time and is critical to the success of each project, but equally important is knowing the people I’m working with and ensuring that they know I’m here for them if they need me. Part of that means connecting with individuals so that they feel comfortable talking with me and asking for help when needed. It’s very easy to get absorbed in the work, but it’s our people that make it all happen.
Q: What were you up to in your career before joining Sargent?
A: Earing a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management at the University of Maine in Orono.
Q: What do you enjoy about your job?
A: Nearly everything! Facing new challenges at every turn. Helping our young employees learn and grow and watching them advance through the company is particularly satisfying.
Q: What is it about Sargent that makes this such a great place to work?
A: It’s a land of opportunity. You get what you put into it. I’ve always been impressed with how well management pays attention to the employee owners that bring the most value each day and provide opportunity to advance from within.
Q: Is there any aspect of your job that you’re especially proud of?
A: Supporting the growth of our employee owners. It’s an honor the help individuals realize their potential and allow them to capitalize on it.
Q: How do you think our industry could do a better job of attracting the younger generation?
A: I think we are doing a lot and it is paying off. Not everyone is cut out for a career in construction, so not all will last. But recruiting is up and it seems like many folks that are new to the industry are finding a home here at Sargent. Our workforce development team is doing a great job bringing people in and providing them with the tools they need to be successful, not just at work, but in life in general.
Q: Is there anyone in your life that you consider to be a mentor?
A: There are so many throughout my career. Those that have made the biggest impact on me include John Milligan, Tracey Hines, Bob Mann, Colby Currier, and Doug Morrison.
Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: I like to ‘try’ to golf. I say ‘try’ because I’m not very good at it(there are a few people in this company that can attest to that). I also enjoy hiking and kayaking with my wife and dog. I also find gardening to be relaxing.
