Q: What is your job title with Sargent, and what are your core responsibilities?
A: I’m currently an Operations Manager for the Mid-Atlantic Region, where I oversee personnel and equipment allocation across multiple projects, all while managing client relationships and project schedules to keep work moving safely and efficiently.
I began my career at Sargent as a Jr. Foreman in April 2015, advancing to Foreman and subsequently into a Superintendent role in 2018. I moved into Project Management in 2020, before stepping into my current role in December 2025.
Q: What are the main challenges of your job?
A: My current role involves ensuring that each project has the right personnel, equipment, and support, while simultaneously managing client expectations and schedule pressures. No two days look the same, and the ability to adapt quickly while keeping every project moving safely and on track is what keeps the role both demanding and rewarding.
Q: What were you doing in your career before joining Sargent?
A: I started my career in residential construction working for a local contractor building houses. That experience opened the door for me to explore what construction could lead me to and gave me insight into problem-solving and creativity on small-scale projects. I definitely learned a lot during that time.
Q: What do you enjoy about your job?
A: I enjoy the new challenges that every day brings and figuring out solutions on the fly. I also enjoy the complexity of some of our projects and planning out how we’re going to execute the work safely and productively.
Q: Why do you think Sargent is such a great company to work for?
A: Being an employee-owned company is one of the biggest benefits we offer our people. It gives every employee-owner a real stake in the company’s success — when Sargent wins, we all win. On top of that, we’ve built a culture around supporting great people, and it truly feels like one big family.
Q: Are there any accomplishments in your career that you’re particularly proud of?
A: I’m exceptionally proud to be part of a growing region in the Mid-Atlantic. We have a lot of opportunities ahead of us, and we’re setting ourselves up for continued success. We’ve worked incredibly hard to get here, and I am excited for the future we are building.
Q: How do you think this industry could do a better job of recruiting young talent?
A: I think it’s lost on young people what this industry, and specifically Sargent, has to offer. When you’re young and not thinking completely about the future, it can be hard to see what construction can really do for you in the long run. Impressing upon young people how this industry can not just lead to a job, but rather a career, is vital. You have so many opportunities to learn, be molded, and contribute to something larger than yourself.
Currently, our workforce advancement team does a great job of attending career fairs and technical schools in conjunction with training up our current workforce. That approach has been working very well for us, and I’m excited to watch their continued success.
Q: Has there been anyone throughout your life that you’ve viewed as a mentor?
A: Yes – General Superintendent Ricky Powell. I started my career at Sargent as a Jr. Foreman working for Ricky, and we spent a lot of time together. He taught me so much about this industry and how to approach the work that we do. I wouldn’t be able to do what I do now without the foundation of knowledge that Ricky gave me.
Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: I love spending time with my wife and our son, any chance I get. We love to be outside, travel, and experience new things. I also enjoy golfing, hunting, and snowboarding – those things are how I recharge.
