“I try to do things efficiently because, in the long run, it not only helps the company but also myself because I am an employee-owner.”
Give a brief description of your career.
I started out as a Junior Foreman and Operator when Sargent Corporation was then H.E. Sargent. When Mr. Herb Sargent took over ownership of H. E. Sargent, there were changes made and I went into operations. I have operated for 20 years since 2001 running all equipment including driving trucks when needed. I am currently operating the gantry crane (Franken-Hoe) at the Back Cove project in Portland, Maine.
What do you like about your position?
I like that I’m able to operate many pieces of equipment on all types of jobs. I’m versatile and that makes jobs more interesting because I am able to move around.
Name a mentor & what you learned/received for wisdom.
There are many, but Dee Hobart and Scott Blanchard are the two that come to mind. They both have really good organizational skills, and the projects are run smoothly and efficiently.
What does being an employee-owner mean to you?
It means that I have more pride in my work and I don’t mind putting in longer hours. I try to do things efficiently because, in the long run, it not only helps the company but also myself because I am an employee-owner.
Quote from a co-worker:
Superintendent Adam Tenan says, “Shawn’s versatility brings great value to the project he is working on as well as to all employee-owners company-wide. He stands up for what is right, and what is safe, which I appreciate and admire.”
