Sargent crews completed the initial, challenging site work for the new $58 million PreK-8th grade school in Bar Harbor, Maine, which is being built between the existing, operating Emerson and Conners schools to replace them. Key difficulties included working in an extremely tight space, performing intricate blasting to remove ledge, and managing a two-month permitting delay that shifted concrete foundation placement to winter, as well as exporting 50,000 cubic yards of material. After beginning in September 2024 and completing the foundations and underground infrastructure by mid-June, the Sargent team temporarily demobilized for the school’s vertical construction, with plans to return in the summer of 2026 to facilitate the simultaneous operation of the three schools and then in 2027 to demolish the old buildings and safely remove the remaining on-site ledge.
