Sargent crews are engaged in multiple, coordinated projects at the active Crossroads Waste Management Landfill in Norridgewock, Maine, a site where they have worked for three decades. The primary efforts include excavating for two new treatment system buildings (one for PFAs and one for biosolids), building the new 4-acre Cell 14B-1, capping an older 10-acre cell (Phase 8), and prepping the new Cell 14B-2. Crucially, the new biosolids processing facility, which will be owned and operated by a Waste Management subsidiary, is designed to significantly reduce the volume of wastewater sludge from 200 wet tons to 50 dry tons daily using a low-temperature air-drying process powered by the landfill’s existing gas-to-energy engines, thus preserving landfill capacity. This extensive construction is being executed while maintaining continuous waste operations, requiring close coordination between Sargent’s and Waste Management’s teams.
