Eastport Municipal Airport, located on Moose Island in Cobscook Bay, recently completed a major upgrade with the reconstruction of a 13,000-square-foot apron near one of its three hangars. The project, spearheaded by Sargent employee-owners, began on April 22 and was finished by May 17, showcasing impressive efficiency. The new apron, which addresses previously noted deterioration, involved removing old pavement, excavating 2,000 cubic yards of gravel, and paving with fresh materials. Despite the upgrades, the airport remained operational by closing only the affected area. This work follows Sargent’s previous improvements to the airport’s runway and stormwater systems. The Eastport Municipal Airport, established in 1942 with WPA labor, continues to benefit from ongoing infrastructure enhancements.
