Project Overview

The University of Maine has completed its new softball complex and is now focused on constructing a 110,000-square-foot UMaine Field Hockey Complex nearby. The new field is set to be ready for the upcoming field hockey season in August, with the first home game scheduled for August 19. The project is part of the university’s $110 million athletic facilities plan, primarily funded by the Harold Alfond Foundation. Sargent, the construction company, had to remove the existing field, install new drainage systems, a water line, and irrigation for the artificial turf. The complex will feature upgraded seating, a modernized press box, and improved equipment storage. Despite winter challenges, the project maintained high quality and grading standards. The completion is nearing, with finishing touches like windscreens and wall padding being installed, and the field hockey team started practicing on the new field in August.
